Schambs, Oilers in 1st After Day 1 on Pioneer Invite

Senior Michele Schambs carded a 1-under par score of 71 to lead the Oilers on the first day of the Pioneer Invitational, wrapped up opening round competition on Oct. 18 at the Legends of Massillon in Massillon, Ohio.

Schambs, who posted the fourth-lowest score in school history during the opening round, helped the Oilers to a first place standing with a score of 301. The 301 shot by the Oilers on Saturday is the second lowest 18-hole team score in school history.

Schambs is currently leading the tournament, but received help from junior Kasey Petty, who is in third place with a 2-over par score of 74.  Sophomore Shelby Warner (78) and freshman Kelsey Koesters (78) also posted good opening round scores and are tied for 14th.

Junior Hannah Schneider also recorded a top-20 finish in the first round and is tied for 16th with a 79.

The event will conclude tomorrow as the Oilers wrap up their fall portion of their 2014-15 schedule.
