Oilers Tied for 6th at NCAA Regional

The University of Findlay women's golf team completed the first day of competition at the 2015 NCAA Division II Super Region 1 Tournament on May 3 at the Cog Hill Golf and Country Club in Lemont, Ill.

The Oilers fired a 319 on the first day and are currently tied for sixth at the tournament. At the end of the event, the top three teams will advance to the 2015 NCAA Division II National Championship. The Oilers made the national tournament last year and are currently three strokes behind the Drury University and Northwood University for third place. They are also only seven strokes behind the University of Indianapolis, who is leading the event with a 312.

Senior Michele Schambs led the Oilers on the first day after carding a five-over par score of 77. She posted 12 pars on Sunday and is currently tied for seventh at the tournament.

Junior Kasey Petty fired a 78 on the first day and is tied for 12th while sophomore Shelby Warner shot a 79, which is good for an 18th place tie. Warner had five birdies in her round, but also had three double bogeys.

Freshman Kelsey Koesters posted an 85 and junior Hannah Schneider had an 87 for Findlay too. Koesters in currently tied for 43rd while Schneider is tied for 46th.

The tournament will continue tomorrow and end on Tuesday.
