The University of Findlay women's golf team is heading back to the NCAA Division II National Championship for the second straight year after tying for second at the Super Region 1 Tournament at the Cog Hill Golf & Country Club in Lemont, Ill. The Oilers fired a three-round score of 935 (319, 308, 308), the second lowest 54-hole score in school history, to tie Ashland University for second place.

The Oilers posted a 308 during the final round on May 5 and will join the University of Indianapolis (312, 305, 305 – 922) and Ashland University (320, 308, 307 – 935) as the representatives from Super Region 1 at the national championship. The championship event will take place on May 13-16 at the Meadows Golf Club in Allendale, Mich., a course the Oilers are very familiar with.

Junior Kasey Petty led the Oilers by tying for second with a 54-hole score of 226, the third lowest total in school history. She was one stroke off of first place, which Kelly Hartigan of Grand Valley State University captured with a 225 (75, 73, 77).

Petty began the tournament with a 78 and then followed with a 1-over par score of 73 during the second round. She then closed the tournament on Tuesday with a 75.

Senior Michele Schambs tied for eighth place while sophomore Shelby Warner tied for 15th.

Schambs posted a 230 during the tournament. She recorded a 77 in the opening round and then followed with a 78 in the second. She then ended the tournament with a 75 for her total of 230, which was the fifth lowest 54-hole score in school history.

Warner meanwhile carded a 234. She had a 79 in the first round, a 76 in the second round and then closed the tournament with a 79.

Freshman Kelsey Koesters finished 43rd with a 250 (85, 81, 84) while junior Hannah Schneider tied for 47th with a 253 (87, 87, 79). Her 79 in the final round was a huge reason as to why the Oilers are advancing to their second straight national championship.
