Oilers Place 8th at 2015 National Championship

The University of Findlay women's golf team wrapped up the 2015 NCAA Division II National Championship in eighth place as they posted a 315 on May 16 for their final score of 1,271 (328, 317, 311, 315) at the Meadows in Allendale, Mich.

Junior Kasey Petty paced the squad with a 1-under-par round of 71 on the final day. Petty recorded 11 pars and four birdies on Saturday to tie for ninth place at the championship, the highest finish ever for an Oilers golfer at the NCAA Division II National Championship.

Petty's 72-hole score of 305 (78, 76, 80, 71) was also the second lowest ever at UF. She set the 72-hole record with a 298 last year at the championship event. Her 71 on the final day of competition was also the fourth lowest round in school history.

The Groveport, Ohio native tied Grand Valley State's Kelly Hartigan (79, 80, 74, 72 – 305) for the highest finish among Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) golfers at the tournament as well.

Sophomore Shelby Warner carded a 78 on Saturday and finished the tournament in 46th place. She posted 13 pars and one birdie during her final round and finished the event with a score of 320 (85, 83, 74, 78).

Senior Michele Schambs capped her career with an 82 on Saturday. She tied for 37th at the championship with a four-day score of 315 (79, 78, 76, 82). The Chillicothe, Ohio native was a first team all-East Region performer for the Oilers this season along with Petty and finished second at the GLIAC Championship earlier in the spring.

Junior Hannah Schneider completed the final round with an 84 and ended the tournament in 70th place. For the championship, Schneider posted a 72-hole score of 344 (87, 91, 82, 84).

Freshman Kelsey Koesters posted an 86 on the final day and ended the tournament with a four-round score of 333 (86, 80, 81, 86). Her performance was good enough to tie for 63rd at the championship.

Indianapolis won the national championship with a score of 1,212 (305, 299, 309, 299) while Midwestern State's Brenna Moore captured individual gold with a 297 (74, 73, 74, 76).
