Petty Leading GLIAC Championship after Day 1

The University of Findlay women's golf team wrapped up the first day of the 2016 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Championship on April 22 at the Meadows in Allendale, Mich. The Oilers are currently in second place at the tournament with a score of 303.

Senior Kasey Petty led the Oilers on day one and is tied for first with a 2-under par score of 70. Petty began her round with a birdie on hole number one. The Groveport, Ohio native then caught fire on the back nine, scoring three straight birdies on holes 14-16 to finish with a round of 70. Her 2-under par score in the opening round was the third-lowest mark in school history and her four birdies in the round led the field of 59 players.

Freshman Samantha Hatter also had a good round for Findlay with three birdies on the day and is in ninth place with a 4-over par score of 76. Junior teammate Shelby Warner is right behind her as she carded a 6-over par score of 78, which is good for 12th at the event.

Sophomore Kelsey Koesters opened the first day of competition with a 79, which included 11 pars and a birdie while freshman Makenzie Torres posted an 82. Koesters is tied for 14th at the tournament and Torres is tied for 24th.

Grand Valley State University is leading the tournament with a 4-over par score of 292.

The second round of the tournament will start tomorrow and the final round is scheduled to be played on Sunday.
