Oilers Seeded 3rd in NCAA DII East Regional

The University of Findlay women's golf team has qualified for the NCAA Division II East Regional, which will take place on May 2-4 at the Panther Creek Country Club in Springfield, Ill.

The Oilers are seeded third in the tournament and are coming off of a second place finish at the 2016 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Championship. The Oilers took runner-up honors at the conference tournament with a three-round score of 922 (303, 311, 308), which was the second-lowest 54-hole score in program history.

The top three teams along with the top three individuals not with one of those teams from the regional will advance to the championship event. The 2016 NCAA Division II National Championship will be held at the CommonGround Golf Course in Aurora, Colo., which is slated to run from May 18-21.

The Oilers have qualified for the NCAA Division II National Championship in each of the past two seasons. They finished eighth at the event last season and placed seventh during the 2014 campaign.

The team is led by senior Kasey Petty, who was recently tabbed the GLIAC Women's Golfer of the Year. Petty finished as the runner-up at the GLIAC Tournament, posting a school record 54-hole score of 215 (-1). Her score catapulted her into a playoff with Ashland's Ali Green, who carded a 5-under par 67 on Sunday, to force sudden death. Green, who birdied hole 17 to get to 1-under for the tournament, then defeated Petty on the first playoff hole to capture the individual title.

Petty, who has been named first team all-conference in each of the past two seasons, earned all-East Region honors last year. She also earned honorable mention All-American accolades after taking ninth place at the 2015 NCAA Division II National Championship.

In addition, junior Shelby Warner and freshmen Makenzie Torres and Samantha Hatter will join sophomore Kelsey Koesters in making up Findlay's team at the regional.

Warner has earned second team all-conference honors in each of the past two seasons while Torres and Hatter each earned the honor this year.
