The University of Findlay women's golf team finished the second day of the 2016 NCAA Division II National Championship on May 19 at the CommonGround Golf Course in Aurora, Colo. The Oilers carded a 303 on Thursday and are currently seventh at the event with a two-round score of 602 (299, 303).

The Oilers 36-hole score of 602 blows away their previous record of 609, which was set at the Perry Park Spring Fling earlier this season. Their 299 yesterday was the second-lowest score in program history while their 303 on Thursday was their sixth-lowest total ever.

Senior Kasey Petty once again led the Oilers and fired a 1-under par score of 71 in the second round. Petty dominated the par five holes in the second round by recording birdies on four out of five opportunities. She ended the day with a total of five birdies and is tied for fifth at the tournament with an even-par, two-day score of 144. Her even-par score after 36 holes is the second-lowest mark in program history.

Junior Shelby Warner posted a 4-over par score of 76 in the second round and is tied for 30th at the event with a 151 (75, 76). Warner accumulated 13 pars and one birdie during her second round on Thursday.

Freshman Makenzie Torres turned in a 4-over par score of 76 in round two and is currently tied for 41st at the event with a 36-hole score of 153 (77, 76). Torres had an incredible stretch on the front nine to help her cause on Thursday as she recorded four straight birdies. Torres streak started at hole four and ended with a birdie on the seventh hole.

Freshman Samantha Hatter ended day two with an 80 and is tied for 47th at the event with a two-day score of 154 (74, 80).

Sophomore Kelsey Koesters posted an 87 on Thursday and is currently in 71st place with a 36-hole score of 171 (84, 87).

The Oilers have recorded 24 birdies at the tournament, the fourth-highest total at the tournament. They have been led by Petty and Torres, who have each recorded eight. Both players are tied for second at the tournament in total birdies made.

Rollins College leads the championship with a two-day score of 578 (290, 288) while their standout, Hally Leadbetter, leads individually with a 3-under par 141 (72, 69).

The event will continue tomorrow and end on Saturday.
