Carmel, IN – The University of Findlay women's golf team played the first round of their first event of the season on Monday, September 12. The event is taking place at the Prairie View Golf Club in Carmel, Indiana and is hosted by the University of Indianapolis.

After the first day of the two-day event, the Oilers find themselves in sixth place out of 17 participating teams. They amassed a team score of 302, the fifth best 18-hole score in team history.

Leading the way for Findlay was senior Shelby Warner. She was able to shoot a +1, 73 on day one and made four birdies on the day, tied for second most of any player in the field. Warner currently sits in a tie for eighth.

Beginning just her second year on the squad, sophomore Makenzie Torres also played well as she entered the clubhouse with a +3, 75 after the first round. She was also able to knock in four birdies and finds herself in a tie for 16th.

Playing in her first collegiate event, freshman Meredith Wipper shot a +4, 76 that included three birdies. Wipper is in a tie for 22nd overall.

Sophomore Samantha Hatter and freshman Samantha Kellstrom rounded out the team scoring for Findlay. Hatter was able to card a +6, 78 while Kellstrom finished with an 86. They find themselves in ties for 34th and 79th, respectively.

The second round will begin tomorrow morning, September 13 at 8:45am.
