Oilers Take Second at Laker Invite | Torres Ties Career-Best

Allendale, MI - The University of Findlay women's golf team concluded the Laker Fall Invitational on Sunday, September 25 with a second round score of 294, the second lowest 18-hole score in program history. They took second place in the 19 team event with a score of 604, the third lowest 36-hole score in program history.

The squad was led by sophomore Makenzie Torres who shot a 71 (-1) on Sunday, a six shot improvement over her first round score of 77. Her Sunday score is tied for a career-best for Torres and is tied for fifth lowest 18-hole score in team history. Torres finished the tournament in a tie for fifth with a 36-hole score of 148 that included eight birdies, second-best in the tournament.

Right behind with a score of 149 was senior Shelby Warner who tallied a 73 (+2) on the final day. Warner was second in the field in par 3 scoring with two-day average of 2.88 (-1).

Freshman Meredith Wipper and sophomore Samantha Hatter each carded 75's in their Sunday rounds to finish in 10th and T18, respectively. Wipper finished with a two-day score of 151 while Hatter ended with a 156. Teammate freshman Samantha Kellstrom rounded out the scoring with a two-day score of 159 (tied for 28th) after posting a 77 on Sunday.

Competing individually was junior Kelsey Koesters who finished in a tie for 35th with a two-day score of 162. She posted an 83 in Sunday's round after putting up a 79 on Saturday. Koesters led the field in par 3 scoring as she went -2 for the tournament.

The Oilers next hit the course when they compete in the Northwood Invitational on October 3-4.
