Findlay in First Place After One Round in Midland

Midland, MI - The University of Findlay women's golf team finds itself in first place of 11 teams after the first round at the Northwood University Invitational on Monday, Oct. 3. The team turned in a score of 296, the third best 18-hole score in school history, although today's round was played on a par 70 course rather than the normal par 72, and has three players in the top-ten.

Sophomore Makenzie Torres led the way for the Orange and Black as she was able to put up a score of 72 (+2) in round one. Her round included four birdies which was tied for most of any player in the field. She is currently in third place.

Right behind her in fourth place is senior Shelby Warner who carded a 73 (+3) on the first day. She was second in the field in both par 4 scoring and par 5 scoring with stroke averages of 4.25 and 4.50, respectively.

Freshman Meredith Wipper and sophomore Samantha Hatter each played well for Findlay. Wipper finished the day in 10th after scoring a 75 (+5) while Hatter is close behind in 11th with a 76 (+6).

Freshman Samantah Kellstrom rounded out the team scoring for the Oilers as she turned in a 79 (+9) and is currently in a tie for 20th.

Competing as individuals were junior Kelsey Koesters and freshman Mackenzie Keenoy. Koesters is sitting in a tie for 14th after posting a 77 (+7) while Keenoy is in T40 with an 84 (+14) after the first round.

The second and final round will be played tomorrow, Oct. 4.
