Findlay Dominates in Midland | Warner Wins Individual Title

Midland, MI - The University of Findlay women's golf team dominated at the Northwood University Invitational on Tuesday, October 4. After being in first place after a round one score of 296, four shots ahead of the field, they came back to shoot a 290 on the second day to take first place, beating the field by 27 shots. That 290 is the best 18-hole round in school history and combined with the 296 from round one, their 36-hole score of 586 breaks the old school record by nine strokes.

Senior Shelby Warner stepped up and played tremendously as she shot a 71 (+1) to earn medalist honors. She finished the two day tournament with a 144, tied for the third best in school history. Warner is the first tournament winner since 2016 graduate Kasey Petty won the Dayton Invitational in October of 2015.

Right behind her was sophomore Samantha Hatter who shot the lowest round of anyone in the field on Tuesday, an even par 70, and finished in second place with a 146, the fourth lowest round in school history.

Sophomore Makenzie Torres also played well over the two days and found herself in a tie for fourth after posting a 75 (+5) on the second day. She finished with a two-day score of 147.

Finishing in sixth place was freshman Meredith Wipper who shot a 74 (+4) on Tuesday for a combined score of 149.

Junior Kelsey Koesters and freshman Samantha Kellstrom finished just outside the top ten with Koesters taking 11th and Kellstrom finishing in a tie for 12th. Koesters shot a 76 (+6) for a two-day score of 153 while Kellstrom carded a 75 (+5) for a two-day score of 154.

Freshman Mackenzie Keenoy rounded out the scoring for the Oilers with an 83 on Tuesday to finish with a 167.

Findlay's next event will be the Bing-Beall Classic held at the Findlay Country Club on October 9-10.
