Torres Fires 69 | Oilers Take 2nd Place

Nashville, TN - The University of Findlay women's golf team wrapped up the Trevecca Women's Invitational on Tuesday, Oct. 25 with another solid team performance. The Oilers combined to shoot a 292 in the second round, the second-lowest 18-hole score in school history. With a 292 on the board, that gave Findlay a 36-hole score of 597, the fourth-lowest 36-hole score at UF. The team finished in second place out of 13 competing teams and were just three shots off the lead which was earned by last year's national runner-up.

The team was led on day two by the play of sophomore Makenzie Torres who shot a career-best 69 (-3) on day two. That round is tied for the third-lowest in school history. She finished with a 153, tied for 13th. Torres' six birdies were fifth most in the tournament.

Freshman Meredith Wipper, who came into the day in first place, finished in third after carding a 74 (+2) on the second day. For the tournament, Wipper shot a 146, the fifth-best 36-hole score in school history. Wipper made eight birdies in the tournament and finished second in par 4 scoring with a 4.20 average.

Senior Shelby Warner improved from yesterday's round by three strokes as she fired a 74 (+2) as well. Warner ended the tournament tied for eighth place with a score of 151 while teammate, freshman Samantha Kellstrom, was one shot back with a 152. Kellstrom's 75 (+3) on the second day placed her in a tie for tenth.

The final team score came from sophomore Samantha Hatter. She shot an 80 (+8) to finish with a score of 159. She ended the tournament in a tie for 24th.

Sophomore Kelsey Koesters participated as an individual and ended the day in a tie for 45th after posting an 86 on day two. That gave her a 36-hole score of 173.

This was the final fall event for the team as they are now off until March 13 when they travel to Florida for the Peggy Kirk Bell Invitational.
