Winter Springs, FL – The University of Findlay women's golf team played the first day of their first tournament of the spring season on Monday, March 13 at the Tuscawilla Country Club in Winter Springs, Florida. The Peggy Kirk Bell Invitational field is made up of 14 teams boasting nine teams that are currently ranked by golfstat.com in the top 30 in the country. Findlay, ranked 10th in the country, is in fifth place after the first day after posting a two-round score of 607.

Freshman Meredith Wipper led the way for the Oilers with a 151 after scoring a 75 (+3) in the first round and coming back with a 76 (+4) in round two. Wipper, who made 26 pars on the day, is currently in a tie for 14th place overall.

One shot behind Wipper is senior Shelby Warner who carded a 75 (+3) in the morning round and shot a 77 (+5) in the afternoon round for a combined 152. Warner is tied for third in the field with 27 pars made and leads the field in par 3 scoring at 3.00. The Lima, Ohio native is currently in a tie for 18th.

Sophomore Samantha Hatter shot the lowest 18-hole score of the day for the Orange and Black as she carded a73 (+1) in the first round of action. She then shot an 80 (+8) in the night cap for a 36-hole score of 153. Hatter made 23 pars on the day and is tied for 24th.

Sophomore Makenzie Torres, tied for 33rd, and freshman Samantha Kellstrom, tied for 39th, round out the Oilers' team with scores of 156 and 158, respectively. Torres fired a 79 (+7) to start her day and bettered that with a 77 (+5) in the second 18-hold round. Kellstrom also shot better in her afternoon round as she carded an 83 (+11) but came back with a 75 (+3) in round two.

Findlay had two athletes competing as individuals. Freshman Mackenzie Keenoy carded an 80 (+8) in round one and then shot an 82 (+10) to finish the day with a 162. She is in a tie for 49th. Junior Kelsey Koesters shot an 88 (+16) and an 83 (+11) and is tied for 69th.
