Findlay Dominates at Spring Fling | 6 Finish in Top-20

Perry Park, KY – The University of Findlay women's golf team, ranked 11th in the country according to golfstat.com, won their third tournament of the 2016-17 season on Sunday, March 26 with a superior performance in the Perry Park Spring Fling. The Oilers had a 598 after two rounds, the fifth-lowest 36-hole score in school history, and finished the event with a 902, the second-lowest score in school history. All five of Findlay's players finished inside the top twenty.
The 902 gave the Oilers a 16-shot win over the second-place team, Missouri-St. Louis, and a 31-shot win over the third-place team, Ashland. The field contained 18 teams including six teams from the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC).
Sophomore Makenzie Torres finished the event with a 77 in round two and a 75 in round three to finish with a +6 (222) for the tournament. The 222 is the lowest 54-hole score of Torres' career and her first round score of 70 was the lowest of the tournament. She ended the event in second place.
Right behind Torres were freshman Meredith Wipper and senior Shelby Warner who took third and fourth in the tournament with scores of 224 and 225, respectively. Wipper carded a pair of 74's in rounds two and three to give her a +8 (224), the lowest 54-hole score of her career while Warner shot a -1 (71) in the second round and finished with a 77 to conclude the tournament at +9 (225).
Sophomore Samantha Hatter found her spot inside the top-20 with scores of 80 and 79 in her final two rounds of the tournament. Hatter finished the event with a +17 (233) to end in a tie for 15th.
The final score came from freshman Mackenzie Keenoy who shot a 77 and 79 in her last two rounds to end with a +19 (235) for the tournament, good enough for 19th overall.
Competing as individuals were freshman Samantha Kellstrom and junior Kelsey Koesters. Kellstrom also cracked the top-20, finishing in a tie for 20th with a score of +20 (236) after scores of 79 and 78 in her final two rounds. Koesters carded an 82 and an 83 in her final rounds to finish with a +36 (252) to finish in 56th.
Findlay will be back in action on April 2-3 when they head to Blacklick, Ohio for the NC4K Classic.
