Oilers Earn No. 2 Seed in East Regional

The University of Findlay women's golf team has qualified for the NCAA Division II East Regional, which will be held on May 8-10 at the Glenmoor Country Club in Canton, Ohio.

The Oilers, who earned the two-seed in the regional, will be looking to punch a ticket to their fourth-straight NCAA Division II National Championship at the 54-hole event. The top three teams along with the top three individuals not with a team from the regional will advance to the championships.

The Oilers are coming off of their first Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) championship and have an added incentive to perform well at the regional. The University of Findlay will play host to the NCAA Division II National Championship at the Findlay Country Club. The championship event will take place on May 17-20.

The Oilers are led by senior Shelby Warner, who was recently named the GLIAC Golfer of the Year. Warner, who was a first team all-conference pick as well, ranks 53rd in the nation with a scoring average of 75.92 strokes per round. She is also ranked 13th among all NCAA Division II women's golfers with 55 birdies this season.

In addition, the Oilers have three other golfers who earned first team all-conference accolades during the 2016-17 season. Sophomore Makenzie Torres, freshman Meredith Wipper and sophomore Samantha Hatter will all be competing at the regional after earning first team honors for Findlay this season.

Torres, who became the Oilers first conference champion this year, ranks 42nd among all NCAA Division II golfers in scoring average at 75.20 strokes per round. Her 66 birdies on the season are the second-most in the nation as well.

Wipper, who was also tabbed the GLIAC Freshman of the Year, is ranked 95th among all NCAA Division II women's golfers in scoring average at 77.04 strokes per round and is tied for tenth in the nation with 56 birdies on the year.

Hatter tied for 12th at the GLIAC Championship and recorded three top-10 finishes for the Oilers this season. Her best finish came at the Northwood Invitational when she placed second with a 146 (+6).

Freshman Samantha Kellstrom will be the fifth Findlay golfer at the event. She earned honorable mention all-conference honors for the Oilers this season.
