Oilers in 3rd After Day 1 of Regional

The University of Findlay women's golf team is in third place after the first day of competition at the NCAA Division II East Regional, which is being held at the Glenmoor Country Club in Canton, Ohio. The Oilers carded a 308 on May 8 and trail Indianapolis (290) and Grand Valley State (300) in the team standings.

Senior Shelby Warner led the Oilers on day one and is tied for seventh after posting a 2-over par score of 74. Warner posted four birdies on Monday, the third-highest total, and sprinkled in nine pars.

Sophomore Makenzie Torres shot a 77 and is tied for 16th while freshman Meredith Wipper recorded a 78, which is good for 18th at the tournament.

Sophomore Samantha Hatter shot a 79 on the first day and is tied for 22nd while freshman Samantha Kellstrom registered an 82 is tied for 38th.

As a team, the Oilers led the field in par-5 scoring, going -3 on the day. Their nine birdies is also the second-highest total at the regional.

The second round will continue tomorrow and the final round is slated for Wednesday. The top three teams in the regional will advance to the 2017 NCAA Division II National Championship, which will be held at the Findlay Country Club on May 17-20.
