Oilers Lead Field of Division I Teams in Dayton

Kettering, Ohio - The University of Findlay women's golf team put together their best 18-hole performance of the 2017-18 season on Monday, Oct. 16 at the Dayton Fall Invitational. Playing the NCR Country Club, the Oilers shot a season-best 293 in the first round, tied for the fourth-best round in school history. That score has Findlay in first place by four shots ahead of a field that includes 15 teams, all of which compete at the NCAA Division I level.

The Oilers have had success at the Dayton Fall Invitational before, winning the tournament last season with a 299 in the first round and a school record 290 in the final round. It was the second-best 36-hole score in school history. Findlay has also had the medalist in the previous two years of this event with Shelby Warner winning in 2016 (71, 67) and Kasey Petty earning the top spot in 2015 (71, 75).

On a day where the average score in the field was an 80, it was junior Makenzie Torres who led the way for Findlay as she fired a 72 (+2) and is currently in a tie for second place, two shots off the lead.

One shot behind Torres is sophomore Meredith Wipper and freshman Kristina Kniesly who each carded a 73 (+3). They are tied for tenth overall while junior Samantha Hatter, who shot a 75 (+5) is tied for 17th.

Sophomore Samantha Kellstrom is in a tie for 80th after a round of 87 (+17) and Findlay's individual, senior Kelsey Koesters, is in a tie for 21st after a solid round of 76 (+6).

The final round will take place tomorrow, Tuesday, Octover 17.
