Torres Qualifies for National Championship
The University of Findlay women's golf team finished fourth at the NCAA Division II East Regional, which wrapped up third round action on May 9 at Katke Golf Course in Big Rapids, Mich. The Oilers shot a 54-hole score of 941 (316, 313, 312) at the tournament.
Individually, junior Makenzie Torres finished with a three-round score of 223 to lead the team. Torres finished her first round with a 74 before posting a 76 in the second round. She then came back with a 1-over par score of 73 in the final round to tie for seventh. Torres, who finished with tournament-high nine birdies, earned a trip to the NCAA Division II National Championship with her performance. The championship event will be held at Bay Oaks Country Club in Houston, Texas on May 16-19.
Junior Samantha Hatter tied for 30th with a 237 (81, 80, 76) while sophomore Meredith Wipper tied for 36th with a 239 (80, 81, 78).
Sophomore Samantha Kellstrom finished in a tie for 45th with a 243 (82, 76, 85) and freshman Kristina Kniesly placed 56th with a 250 (81, 83, 86).
