The University of Findlay women's golf team is in fifth place after day one of the Indianapolis Fall Invitational, which wrapped up 36 holes of competition on Sep. 10. The Oilers shot a 299 in the first round and came back with another 299 during the second for their total of 598.

Indianapolis leads the event after the first day with a 1-over par score of 577 (294, 283) while Dallas Baptist is in second after carding a 587 (292, 295).

Senior Makenzie Torres led the Oilers on Monday and is tied for tenth with a 3-over par score of 147. Torres posted a 77 in the first round before firing a 2-under par score of 70 during the second 18 holes of competition on the day. She is currently ranked fifth at the tournament with six birdies and recorded the lone eagle of the day during the second round on the par-5, 510-yard hole 13.

Junior Meredith Wipper and sophomore Kristina Kniesly are each tied for 22nd with a 151 while senior Samantha Hatter is tied for 29th with a 152.

Wipper shot a 76 in the first round and came back with a 75 in the second for her total while Kniesly posted a 1-over par score of 73 before shooting a 78 for her total. Hatter meanwhile went 1-over par with a 73 in the opening round before carding a 79 in round two.

Junior Samantha Kellstrom is tied for 54th with a 157 (81, 76), freshman Jill Schmitmeyer is tied for 61st (82, 78 – 160) and junior Mikaela Hickey is in 80th with a score of 173 (93, 80).

The third and final round of the tournament is scheduled for tomorrow.
