Oilers in 4th Among All D1 Schools at Austin Peay

The University women's golf team wrapped up the first day of the F&M Bank Austin Peay Intercollegiate on Oct. 1 at the Clarksville Country Club in Clarksville, Tenn. The Oilers shot a 36-hole score of 620 (314, 306) and are in fourth place at the tournament.

Makenzie Torres led the Oilers, who are the only NCAA Division II program at the tournament, with a two-round score of 151. Torres posted a 79 during her first 18 holes of play and then came back to fire a 1-over par score of 73 in the second. She is currently tied for eighth place at the event.

Kristina Kniesly is tied for 16th with a 154 (79, 75) while Samantha Hatter is tied for 23rd after posting a 157 (77, 80).

Meredith Wipper shot a 159 (80, 79) and Samantha Kellstrom added a 160 (81, 79). Wipper is tied for 30th while Kellstrom is tied for 33rd.

Individually, Jill Schmitmeyer carded a 158 (76, 82) and is tied for 26th while Mikaela Hickey had a 164 (82, 82) and is tied for 41st.

As a team, the Oilers are leading the field in par-5 scoring at 5.02 while Hickey's four birdies is the fourth-highest total at the tournament.

The second day of competition will be held tomorrow.
