Oilers Climb to 9th After Day 2 of Championship

The University of Findlay women's golf team completed day two of the 2019 NCAA Division II National Championship on May 15 at the PGA National in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla. The Oilers shot a 310 on Wednesday and are currently in ninth place with a 36-hole score of 628 (318, 310).

The Oilers, who are only five strokes shy of eighth place Limestone, were led by senior Makenzie Torres on the second day. Torres completed her second round with a 1-over par score of 74. During her round, Torres posted three birdies and 12 pars and is currently tied for 10th overall at the championship with a 5-over par score of 151 (77, 74).

Senior Samantha Hatter and junior Meredith Wipper each posted a second round score of 78 (+5), which included three birdies apiece. Hatter is tied for 43rd at the tournament with a score of 159 (81 78) while Wipper is tied for 56th with a 163 (85, 78).

Sophomore Kristina Kniesly posted an 81 on Thursday and is tied for 48th with a 36-hole score of 160 (79, 81) while freshman Jill Schmitmeyer is tied for 50th overall with a 161 (81, 80).

The third day of competition will take place tomorrow. The top eight teams after the round tomorrow will advance to match play, which will begin on May 17.
