Box Score

The University of Findlay women's lacrosse team pulled out a 14-13 road win over Wheeling Jesuit University on April 29 to advance to the semifinals of the 2014 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Tournament.

The Oilers fell behind by a score of 9-5 at the half and looked as though they wouldn't make it through the quarterfinal round when the Cardinals scored the first two goals of the second half. The Oilers then answered with five straight goals in the next ten minutes to cut the lead to one at 11-10.

After a goal by each team, sophomore Mackenzie Barnwell tied the game at 12-12 when she scored unassisted at the 15:29 mark. Wheeling Jesuit then answered back three minutes later, but sophomore Sarah Lankton scored two consecutive goals to give Findlay a 14-13 lead.

Leading by one with 7:46 to play, the Oilers defense stood strong and sophomore Katie Poorman came up with a late save with only seconds remaining to preserve the win.

Barnwell had a huge game for Findlay with five goals while freshman Nicole Stines scored four goals, won 13 draw controls and added five ground balls.

Lankton added three goals, five draw controls and six groundballs for the Oilers as well.

Poorman faced 23 shots in the game and made ten saves in the win.

The Oilers, who are now 8-10 on the season, will travel to Allendale, Mich. to take on top-seeded Grand Valley State University in the semifinals on Friday. The game is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
