Oilers Outlast Dragons, Win 12-11

The University of Findlay women's lacrosse team came away with a 12-11 win over Tiffin University on March 20 in their home opener at the Armstrong Sports Complex. The win gives the Oilers a 4-2 record on the season with a 1-0 mark in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC).

The Oilers trailed by a score of 10-9 with just over 20 minutes to play in the second half before scoring three straight goals to take a two point lead. Junior Allison Kelly started the rally with a goal off of an assist by sophomore Olivia Sherman, which was followed by a score from freshman Hannah Peebles. Peebles goal on an assist from sophomore Natalie Fury, gave the Oilers the lead for good.

Leading by one, senior Mackenzie Barnwell tacked on a goal to put Findlay up 12-10 with just over 11 minutes to play. The Oilers offense then passed the ball well and relied on great defense down the stretch to pick up their fourth straight victory.

Senior Sarah Lankton paced the team with three goals, one assist, three ground balls, three draw controls and two caused turnovers while Barnwell and Kelly each had a hat trick as well.

Sherman scored one goal and had three assists while senior Taylor Trice caused three turnovers and also added a goal.

Sophomore Brooke Eicher claimed the win between the pipes with eight saves.

The Oilers will be back at home on March 24 to host Lake Erie at 4 pm.
