Sherman Scores Late, Oilers Win 8-7

The University of Findlay women's lacrosse team claimed an 8-7 win over Lake Erie College on April 24 in Painesville, Ohio. The victory gives the Oilers an 8-7 record on the season with a 5-5 mark in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC).

The two teams played even at the half as they entered the break in a tie at 5-5. The Oilers would take their first lead of the game with just over 16 minutes to play when senior Mackenzie Barnwell scored on a free position shot to put Findlay up 7-6.

Leading by one, the Storm tied the game with just under eight minutes to play. Sophomore Olivia Sherman then gave the Oilers the victory when she scored unassisted with only 1:08 remaining in the contest.

Sophomore Rachel Heath picked up the win in goal by making four saves. She faced 11 shots and only allowed seven goals in the game.

Sherman and senior Sarah Lankton paced the offense with two goals apiece. Lankton also added four draw controls and three ground balls.

The Oilers will be back in action again on April 29 when they host McKendree University at 4 p.m.
