Oilers Advance to GLIAC Championship

The University of Findlay women's lacrosse team advanced to the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Championship for the first time in school history with a 13-11 win over Tiffin University on May 6 in Allendale, Mich. The victory moves the Oilers record to 11-7 on the season.

The Oilers jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first six minutes of the game to set an early tone. The Dragons would not go quietly however as they battled back to climb within one at 10-9 with just over 11 minutes to play in the second half.

Leading by one, the Oilers scored three straight goals to put the game out of reach. The three goal run came from sophomore Olivia Sherman and freshman Graceann Conte as they scored or assisted on each of them. Sherman scored the first goal of the run off of an assist by Conte and then tacked on another goal before Conte found the back of the net off of an assist by Sherman.

Conte paced the team with four goals and an assist while Sherman had a monster game with three goals and three helpers.

Freshman Brie Caruso and senior Mackenzie Barnwell each scored two goals apiece while junior Kyra Bradley and senior Sarah Lankton contributed one goal apiece in the victory.

Sophomore goalie Rachel Heath picked up the win by stopping six shots.

The Oilers will now move to the finals of the 2016 GLIAC Tournament and will face the winner of the Grand Valley State/McKendree semifinal game. The game will be played on Sunday at noon in Allendale, Mich.
