Lakers Down Oilers in GLIAC Championship

The University of Findlay women's lacrosse team fell 20-10 to Grand Valley State University on May 8 in the 2016 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Championship in Allendale, Mich. The loss ends the Oilers season as they finish the 2016 campaign with a 12-8 record.

The Oilers found themselves down 10-7 after a competitive first half and started the second period with a goal to climb within two. The Lakers would then distance themselves from Findlay in the final half to claim the championship title.

Junior Kyra Bradley and sophomore Olivia Sherman led the team with three goals apiece while senior Mackenzie Barnwell scored two. Freshmen Brie Caruso and Hannah Peebles added one goal apiece in the loss as well.

Sophomore goalkeeper Rachel Heath was saddled with the loss after allowing 20 goals. She made five saves in the game.

The Lakers held a 19-14 advantage in draw controls and held an 18-14 advantage in ground balls. The Lakers also caused eight turnovers as the Oilers committed 16 during the contest.
