Oilers Drop First Game of Spring Break

Huntsville, AL – The University of Findlay women's lacrosse team played their first road game of spring break against Alabama Huntsville on Monday, March 4. The Oilers fell to the Chargers with a final score of 8-6, bringing them to 1-4 on the season.

The Chargers started off the scoring with a goal in the 24th minute. Freshman Dani Dilorenzo put the Oilers on the board in the 20th minute to tie the game at 1-1.

Freshman Madi DeVries then got a feed from sophomore Hanna Morgan to give Findlay the lead in the 13th minute. The Chargers fought back and scored three unanswered goals to take a 4-2 lead with 5:41 remaining in the half.

Junior Ciara Burud answered back from an assist by senior Jacelyn Litman to cut the Chargers lead to one before the end of the half.

The Chargers started the second half scoring three goals to increase their lead to 7-3.

In the 17th minute, Litman fired a free position shot past the Chargers goalie to give Findlay their first goal of the half. Senior Brie Caruso then followed suit and scored off a free position shot, and then scored again just a minute later to cut the Chargers lead to one.

With three minutes remaining in the game, the Chargers put another goal on the board to finish out the game with a final score of 8-6.

Sophomore Hallie Canfield had three caused turnovers and four groundballs on the defensive end for the Oilers. Freshman Kendra Lindell had three draw controls and two ground balls.

Senior Claire Ferrell was in the net for the Oilers and had 12 saves on the day. With that, she has broken the career save record, surpassing Rachel Heath's previous record of 219. The 12 saves put Ferrell at a career record of 227 saves.

The Oilers will be playing another spring break road game on Wednesday, March 6 against Montevallo at 4:00 PM.
