Oilers Defeat Scots 11-10

The University of Findlay women's lacrosse team began their season with an 11-10 win over Edinboro University on Feb. 16 at the Armstrong Sports Complex.

Sophomore Danielle Dilorenzo broke up a 10-10 tie with only 2:38 to play in regulation when she found the back of the net off of an assist from senior Ciara Burud. The Oilers, who struggled winning draw controls all game, came up with a big one after the goal as sophomore Kendra Lindell controlled it allowing time to run off the clock. Lindell then came up with a caused turnover with under 30 seconds to play to seal the victory and grant head coach Allison Kelly with her first win.

Burud led the offense with three goals and three assists while Dilorenzo had two goals and a pair of assists.

Junior Allie Kasprzyk and sophomores Adriana Santucci and Ashleigh Lesser each posted two goals apiece in the victory as well.

Sophomore Rachel Bornstein came up with 16 saves in the win as the Fighting Scots outshot the Oilers 35-18.

Junior Hallie Canfield led the defense with six ground balls while Bruud, senior Brittany Stephens, and Bornstein each picked up three ground balls. Junior Jordan Reineke chipped in with two ground balls and also caused two turnovers.

The Oilers will be back in action again on Feb. 22 when they host Slippery Rock University at 1pm.
