#17 Roughnecks Finish 3rd at Midwest Classic

Senior Michael Lybarger and sophomore Ben Sergent each walked away with an individual title as The University of Findlay wrestling program, ranked 17th nationally, finished third at the Midwest Classic on Monday, December 19 in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Lybarger and Sergent each went undefeated in their respective weight classes to help the Roughnecks accumulate 84.5 points at the event.

#1 Newberry and #2 Upper Iowa each finished ahead of the Roughnecks with 117 and 115.5 points, respectively.

Lybarger, the top-ranked grappler in the nation at 174, finished the event with a 5-0 record as he defeated Newberry's Travis Sheehy by a 6-4 decision in overtime to claim the championship.

Sergent, the eighth-ranked wrestler in the 125-pound weight class, concluded the event with a 4-0 record and took the title with a 3-2 win over Kyle Pedretti of Upper Iowa, who is ranked second in the nation and is a two-time All-American.

In addition, sophomore Adam Walters took third at the event in the 184-pound weight class after posting a 5-1 record while junior Andrew Tumlin recorded a fourth place finish in the 285-pound weight class with a 5-2 mark.

Walters won his third place match by 4-2 decision over sixth-ranked Mitch Brown of Newberry.

Junior Mason True also placed for the Roughnecks, taking seventh in the 174-pound weight class with a 3-2 record.

The Roughnecks will hit the mats again on January 7-8 at the NCAA Division II National Duals in Springfield, Illinois.
