#13 Roughnecks Complete Day 1 of Regional

The University of Findlay wrestling team, ranked 13th in the nation, wrapped up the first day of the Super Regional 2 Championship on Saturday, Feb. 25 in Edmond, Okla.  They currently sit in fourth place with a total of 53 points, 20 behind Central Oklahoma, who is winning the event.

Five Roughneck wrestlers advanced to the semifinals on the first day to lead the way.

Sophomore Ben Sergent, the seventh-ranked wrestler in the 125-pound weight class, advanced with a pin over Central Missouri's Ty Balty in only 20 seconds.  He will now face Ashland's Brandon Davis, the eighth-ranked grappler, for the right to compete for a regional title.

Junior Mason True advanced to the semifinals with a pin over Belmont Abbey's Joseph Maumoynier in 2:05.  He will face Limestone's Daniel McGillivray tomorrow for a chance to win a regional title in the 165-pound weight class.

Senior Michael Lybarger, the second-ranked wrestler in the 174-pound weight class and a reigning national champion, claimed a 9-1 win over Belmont Abbey's Ryan Gregory to advance to the semifinals.  He will face Ashland's Bryson Hall tomorrow in the semifinals.

Sophomore Adam Walters, the sixth-ranked wrestler in the 184-pound weight class, went 2-0 on the first day to advance to the semifinals.  He defeated Limestone's Landon Hall by a 3-2 margin in the first round and then claimed a 7-5 win over Brandon Tressler of King College.  Walters will now face Central Oklahoma's Tanner Keck, the second-ranked wrestler, tomorrow in the semifinals.

Junior Andrew Tumlin rounds out the group of Roughnecks who will have the opportunity to compete for a regional title as he claimed a 10-4 win over Belmont Abbey's Will Robinson in the 285-pound weight class.  He will face Central Oklahoma's Cody Dauphin tomorrow in the semifinals.

In addition, senior Jeremy Espinoza and sophomore Ashton Brown are still alive and competing for a chance to make nationals.

Espinoza finished the first day with a 1-1 record in the 149-pound weight class while Brown went 2-1 at 197.

The tournament will conclude tomorrow.
