4 Wrestlers Reach Semifinals for #8 Roughnecks

Four Roughneck wrestlers will compete for a first place finish in their respective weight classes as the squad wrapped up the opening day of the Midwest Classic on Saturday, Dec. 15 in Indianapolis, Ind.

At 125, Ben Sergent went 3-0 on the first day with two pins and a major decision win.  Sergent pinned Maryville's Brandon Oshiro in 1:40 during his first match and then came back with a 9-1 win over Brewton-Parker's Sam Rosario in the second round.  He then reached the semifinals with a pin in 5:31 over Trine's Brandon Preston.

At 165, Mason True sported a 2-0 record as he claimed a 5-2 win over West Liberty State's Mike Emery and an 8-2 victory against Indianapolis' Jeff Weiss.

In the 184-pound weight class, Adam Walters went 3-0 to reach the semifinals.  Walters won 12-5 against Limestone's Blake Steiert before claiming a 23-9 major decision victory over Brewton-Parker's Heath McGregor.  He then wrapped up his Saturday matches with an 8-4 win against Jameel Bryant of Lindsey Wilson.

Andrew Tumlin was the fourth Roughneck to reach the semifinals as he went 2-0 in the 285-pound weight class.  Tumlin won 5-2 by decision over Lindsey Wilson's Theodore Furnish and then had another 5-2 win, this time against West Liberty State's Mike Carpenter.

Three other Roughnecks are still alive and looking to place at the event as Joey White went 2-1 at 141, Jan Unlinski was 3-1 with two pins at 149 and Jordan Cowell went 3-1 at 157.

Alec Bissel went 0-2 and was eliminated in the 174-pound weight class while Ashton Brown finished with a 2-2 record on the first day of competition.
