Walters Wins 184-Pound Title at Midwest Classic

Adam Walters, the top-ranked wrestler in the nation in the 184-pound weight class, claimed a first place finish for the #8 Roughnecks at the Midwest Classic on Sunday, Dec. 16 in Indianapolis, Ind.

Walters finished with a perfect 5-0 record at the event and earned his first place finish by claiming a 3-2 win by decision over Newberry's Mitch Brown.

Findlay's Andrew Tumlin added a second place finish in the 285-pound weight class as he reached the finals before falling 5-3 to Northern State's Matthew Meuleners in the championship match.  Tumlin finished the event with a 3-1 record.

Ben Sergent, who is ranked second in the nation in the 125-pound weight class, finished the event with a 5-1 record and settled for third place.  He claimed a pin in the third place match against Ohio Norhern's Jerome Pasquale in 1:27 for the third place title and ended the tournament with a 5-1 record, which included three pins.

The Roughnecks also had three individuals claim fifth place at the event as Joey White, Jordan Cowell and Mason True all achieved the feat.

White claimed fifth in the 141-pound weight class with a 4-2 record, Cowell as fifth at 157 with a 6-2 record and True went 3-2 to earn fifth place in the 165-pound weight class.

Jan Ulinski added a sixth place finish at 149 with a 4-3 record as well.

The Roughnecks finished third at the event with 110 points as Newberry took the title with 159.5 points.  Upper Iowa came in second with 118 total points.

The Roughnecks will be back on the mat again on Jan. 12-13 at the NWCA National Duals in Springfield, Ill.
