#19 Eagles Hold Off #7 Roughnecks

The Universitiy of Findlay wrestling team, ranked seventh in the nation, suffered an 18-16 loss at home to #19 Ashland University on Friday, Feb. 1 in Croy Gymnasium.

The Roughnecks fell behind 6-0 in the first two matches before sophomore Joey White picked up a 3-2 win over Jacob Garringer at 141.  Another win by the Eagles made the score 9-3, but freshman Jordan Cowell scored a 9-2 win against Zeb Beam at 157 to cut the lead to three at 9-6.

The Eagles would win the next two matches before senior Adam Walters, the second-ranked wrestler in the nation at 184, claimed a pin over Brandon O'Neil in 5:16.  The pin made the score 15-12 with two matches left.

A victory by Ashland at 197 put pressure on senior Andrew Tumlin, the seventh-ranked wrestler in the heavyweight division, to score a win by pinfall in the final match and force a tie.  Tumlin ended up winning by a 9-1 major decision over Tyler Houska, making the final score 18-16.
