#9 Roughnecks Finish 6th at Regional

The University of Findlay wrestling team, ranked ninth in the nation, finished sixth at the NCAA Division II Super Region 2 Tournament, which concluded on Sunday, Feb. 24 in Ashland, Ohio.  The Roughnecks racked up 78 points during the tournament and will send four individuals to the NCAA Division II National Championship on March 8-9 in Birmingham, Ala.

Junior Ben Sergent, senior Mason True, junior Adam Walters and senior Andrew Tumlin each finished as the runner-up in their respective weight classes to lead the team.

Sergent, ranked eighth nationally, was second in the 125-pound weight class after being defeated 5-2 by seventh-ranked Max Byrd of Ashland.

True took second in the 165-pound weight class after suffering a technical fall in 6:15 to Notre Dame's Joey Davis, who is the top-ranked wrestler in the nation.

Walters, ranked second nationally in the 184-pound weight class, fell  by a score of 7-2 to Dallas Smith of Ouachita Baptist in the finals while Tumlin, ranked seventh nationally at 285, lost 5-2 to five-ranked Orlando Scales of Notre Dame.

Sophomore Joey White added a fifth place finish in the 141-pound weight class and wrapped up the event with a 4-2 record.
