Walters Named GLIAC Wrestler of the Year

Junior Adam Walters was named the 2013 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Wrestler of the Year on Thursday, Feb. 28.  Walters, who has posted a 24-2 record on the season, is ranked third nationally in the 184-pound weight class.

The Chesterland, Ohio native was named first team all-conference for the second straight year and will be competing for the Roughnecks at the NCAA Division II National Championship on March 8-9 in Birmingham, Ala.  Last season Walters finished as the national runner-up at 184, earning All-American honors in the process.

In addition, junior Ben Sergent and sophomore Joey White were tabbed second team all-conference for their performances during the season.

Sergent, who is ranked seventh nationally at 125 and is a returning All-American, has posted a 26-10 record this year with ten pins.  He will also represent the Roughnecks at the national event and look to improve upon his third place finish in 2012.

White meanwhile went through the season with a 32-14 record, the highest win total on the team.
