Day 1 of Midwest Regional Complete

The University of Findlay wrestling team completed the first day of the NCAA Division II Midwest Regional on Friday, Feb. 28 in Tiffin, Ohio.  The Roughnecks are currently in ninth place with 26 points while Newberry leads the event with a total of 62.5 points.

Senior Adam Walters and senior Ben Sergent have both reached the semifinals of their respective weight classes to lead the team.

Walters went 1-0 in the 174-pound weight class to reach the semifinals and will square off against Tanner Saranceno of Limestone tomorrow.

Sergent posted a 2-0 record in the 125-pound weight class to reach the semifinals and is scheduled to wrestle Indianapolis' Alex Jones tomorrow.

Several other Roughneck wrestlers are still alive and will compete tomorrow for the opportunity to qualify for the NCAA DII National Championship.

Freshman Dalton Nicely posted a 2-1 record at 149 and freshman Bradley Metz went 2-1 in the 165-pound weight class.  Both wrestlers will look to make their way through the consolation bracket tomorrow.
