Walters, Sergent Reach Semis for Roughnecks

The University of Findlay wrestling team is currently in 18th place at the NCAA Division II National Championship, which completed the opening day of competition on March 14 in Cleveland, Ohio.

Seniors Adam Walters and Ben Sergent secured All-American honors by reaching the semifinals of their respective weight classes and will battle their way to a shot at a national championship tomorrow.

Walters advanced to the semifinals of the 174-pound weight class by posting a 2-0 record on Friday. He will now face Western State's Elliot Copeland in the semifinals for the right to have a shot at the national title.

Walters began the event with a 7-3 win over St. Cloud State's Clayton Jennissen and also claimed an 11-4 win over Mercyhurst's August Mizia.

Sergent went 2-0 in the 125-pound weight class and is scheduled to take on Matthew Turek of Gannon in the semifinals tomorrow.

Sergent started the event with a 10-4 win over Minnesota State-Moorhead's Blake Bosch.  He then defeated Ouachita Baptist's Garrett Evans by a 9-2 decision to reach the semifinals.

Red-shirt freshman Dalton Nicely finished his first national championship trip with a 0-2 record in the 149-pound weight class while fellow red-shirt freshman Bradley Metz went 1-2 at his first national championship in the 165-pound class.
