Roughnecks Kick Off Season at Mich. St.
The University of Findlay wrestling team kicked off their season at the Michigan State Open on Nov. 2 in East Lansing, Mich.
Sophomore Jarad VanVleet led the Roughnecks at the event by going 3-2 in the 157-pound weight class of the freshman/sophomore division.
VanVleet lost his first match by decision, 3-0 to Kent State's Jacob Globke. He then scored a major decision (12-2) win over St. Catharine's Reed Daniel before scoring two straight pins. His first pin came against Alan Drake, who was wrestling unattached, in 2:37. He then pinned Ohio State's Anthony DeCarlo in just 44 seconds, but was pinned himself in the next bout against Indiana's Jacob Darnishek in 50 seconds.
Freshman Adam Kluk posted a 2-2 record in the 285-pound weight class of the freshman/sophomore division while sophomore Nick Goebel went 2-2 in the open division of the 149-pound weight class.
Junior Jordan Cowell, wrestling unattached, also posted a 2-2 record in the open division of the 157-pound weight class.
The Roughnecks will be back out on the mats again on Nov. 8 when they take part in the Mercyhurst Open in Erie, Pa.
