Roughnecks Win 2 Classes at King Open

The University of Findlay wrestling team had a good showing at the King Open on Nov. 23 in Bristol, Tenn. as a pair of Roughnecks claimed first place finishes.

Freshman Ryan Skoniezny claimed a first place finish in the 141-pound weight class while sophomore Nick Goebel claimed gold in the 149-pound weight class to lead the way.

Skoniezny ended the tournament with a perfect 4-0 record and he came away with an 8-4 win over King's Frank Yattoni in the championship match.

Goebel went 3-0 to win his title and earned first place with a 3-1 win over Newberry's Seiji Borja in the finals.

Freshman Josh Wimer took home second place in the 133-pound weight class with a 2-1 record while sophomore Gerald Beck earned the silver in the 197-pound bracket with a 1-1 mark.

Sophomore Joey White posted a 3-1 record at 157 to finish third while Nic Skonieczny went 5-1 in the 165-pound weight class to earn the bronze as well.

The Roughnecks will be back on Dec. 6 to compete in the Ohio Northern Invitational, which is scheduled to start at 9 a.m. in Ada, Ohio.
