Roughnecks Go 1-2 at Ranger Duals
The University of Findlay wrestling team competed at the Ranger Duals on Jan. 17 in Kenosha, Wis., finishing the event with a 1-2 record.
The Roughnecks began the meet with a 25-9 loss to Augustana. They then came away with a 22-15 win over Wisconsin-Parkside before closing the event with a 23-12 loss to McKendree.
Sophomore Nick Goebel, who is ranked fourth in the nation in the 149-pound weight class, led the Roughnecks with a 3-0 record. He claimed a 9-4 win over Augustana's Jacob Anderson, defeated Parkside's Aaron Heidersheid by a 9-3 margin and closed the meet with a 2-0 victory against McKendree's Trent Williams.
Sophomore Bradley Metz also had a great day, going 3-0 in the 174-pound weight class for the Roughnecks. He began the event with a 4-1 win over Augustana's Logan Henning before winning 9-0 against Parkside's Brett Scoles. He then ended the day with a 3-0 victory against McKendree's Luis Alba.
Freshman Josh Wimer, who is ranked eighth nationally in the 133-pound weight class, went 2-1 while sophomore Schulyer Phillips went 2-1 for Findlay at 125.
The Roughnecks will return to action again on Jan. 31 at the Super Region II Duals in Tiffin, Ohio.
