Eagles Nip Roughnecks 19-18

The University of Findlay wrestling team suffered a tough 19-18 loss at Ashland University on Feb. 7. The Roughnecks held a 15-9 advantage with four matches to go, but couldn't hold onto the lead down the stretch.

Sophomore Schulyer Phillips got the Roughnecks off to a great start with a major decision win at 125. After a victory by the Eagles, freshman Ryan Sknonieczny claimed a victory at 141, which was followed by a major decision win by sophomore Nick Goebel at 149. Sophomore Joey White then lost a tough 2-1 match at 157 before sophomore Nic Skonieczny scored a major at 165.

Leading 15-9, the Roughnecks lost the next three matches. Sophomore Luke Fleming then picked up the final win for Findlay by a 7-1 margin, narrowly missing the major decision victory, which would have tied the score.

The Roughnecks will return to action on Feb. 13 when they host Lake Erie College at 7 p.m. in Croy Gymnasium.
