Roughnecks Ranked 13th in D2

On Wednesday, October 28, D2Wrestle.com released their annual preseason rankings and The University of Findlay was well represented.

The Roughnecks begin the season ranked 13th in the country. There are three other Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) teams in the top-20.

Junior Nick Goebel, who will compete at 149 lbs., finished last year with a 35-10 record. Those 35 victories were fifth most at the University of Findlay in a single season. Among those accomplishments, he was named first-team all-GLIAC, won a regional championship, and placed fourth at 149 in the national championship. He will begin the 2015-16 season ranked second in the country.

In the 141 lb. division, sophomore Ryan Skonieczny is ranked sixth in the country. He is coming off a freshman season where he finished with a 22-16 record and was a national qualifier.

The final Roughneck who received this pre-season accolade is junior Luke Fleming. The Powell, Ohio native will wrestle at 285 lbs. and looking to improve on a 2014-15 season where he finished 13-9 while recording 25 takedowns. He finished fourth at last year's regional meet and was a national qualifier.

The wrestlers will begin their season on Saturday, November 7 when they travel to Ypsilanti, Michigan for the Eastern Michigan Open.
