Roughnecks Go 2-0 on First Day in South Carolina
Hartsville, SC – The University of Findlay wrestling team, today named the 14th-ranked team in the country in DII wrestling, won their first two contests at the Super Region 2 Duals in South Carolina. The Roughnecks dominated Anderson University 46-2 in their first matchup on Friday, Jan. 29, and later defeated Belmont Abbey by a 29-12 final.
Sophomore Ryan Skonieczny, ranked fifth in the region at 141-lbs., went 2-0 on the day, highlighted by a 15-6 major decision over Belmont Abbey's Jonathan Charpenter.
Still the best in the country at 149 pounds, junior Nick Goebel asserted his dominance by going 2-0. His first bout ended with a pin at 1:55 and his second ended with a 17-4 major decision.
Junior Jordan Cowell (165 lbs.), freshman Alonzo Turner (174 lbs.), sophomore Randy Caris (184 lbs.), and sophomore Dalton Ismael (197 lbs.) each went 2-0 on the day as well. Those four wrestlers combined for four major decisions and three pins.
The Roughnecks will be back on the mat tomorrow for the second day of matchups. They are scheduled to take on UNC-Pembrook, Newberry, and Limestone.
