Nelson Named GLIAC Co-Coach of the Year
Shawn Nelson, head coach of the University of Findlay wrestling program, was tabbed the 2016 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Co-Coach of the Year on Feb. 24. Nelson shared the award with Ashland's Joshua Hutchens.
Nelson, who also won the award during the 2012 campaign, led the Roughnecks to a 9-7 record in dual meets this season. He was also 2-1 against GLIAC opponents during the 2015-16 campaign.
In addition, the Roughnecks had three individuals earn all-conference accolades. Junior Joey White and sophomore Ryan Skonieczny were each named first team all-conference while junior Nic Skonieczny captured second team all-league honors.
White was named first team all-conference at 157. The Dundee, Mich. native finished the regular season with a 27-11 record.
Ryan Skonieczny produced a 23-12 record at 141 while his brother, Nic, finished the regular season with a 21-14 mark at 165. Both wrestlers are from Stow, Ohio.
Nic Skonieczny was also a second team all-league pick last year for the Roughnecks as well.
