Roughnecks Take Part in Ohio Open

Cleveland, OH – The University of Findlay wrestling team took part in the Ohio Intercollegiate Open hosted by Case Western Reserve University on Sunday, Nov. 13. A total of 13 Roughnecks participated in the event that highlighted NCAA Division 1, 2, and 3 teams from Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York, and West Virginia.

Sophomore Alonzo Turner was the Roughnecks' top finisher of the day as he had a perfect 3-0 record. Wrestling at 165 pounds, Turner took down wrestlers from Kent State and Notre Dame (OH) before taking part in the championship bout. In that matchup, Turner was matched up with Austin Bell of the University of Pittsburgh. Turner picked up the win in sudden victory (4-2) to claim the 165 pound championship.

Fellow sophomore Devin Rogers also reached the championship match of his weight class. Rogers, who wrestled at 133 pounds, took down wrestlers from Tiffin and Notre Dame (OH) before dropping a 10-3 decision in the tournament final. He ended the day with a 2-1 record.

The Roughnecks' next appearance on the mats will be on Saturday, Nov. 19 when they play host to the annual Findlay Open. That event begins at 9:00 am.
