4 Roughnecks Earn All-American Honors

The University of Findlay wrestling team wrapped up the 2017 NCAA Division II National Championship on March 11 in Birmingham, Ala. Four UF wrestlers came home as All-Americans.

Senior Nick Goebel took third place in the 149-pound weight class to lead the way. Goebel reached the semifinals, but fell 6-4 to Notre Dame's Jawan Edmund. He then won the third place match with a 7-3 victory over Saint Cloud State's James Pleski to earn All-American accolades.

Senior Joey White also reached the semifinals of the 157-pound weight class, but lost 5-2 in a tie-breaker to Nebraska Kearney's Destin McCaughley. White then dropped a 4-3 decision to Pitt-Johnstown's Cody Law before losing 3-2 against McKendree's Ryan Strope. White finished the event in sixth place and earned All-American honors in the process.

Sophomore Alonzo Turner also secured All-American honors with his sixth place finish in the 165-pound weight class. Turner worked his way through the consolation bracket and finished the event with a 3-3 record.

Junior Bradley Metz was the final Roughneck to earn All-American honors, taking seventh in the 174-pound bracket. Metz posted a 3-2 record and claimed a 1-0 win over McKendree's Nick Foster in the seventh place match.
