Roughnecks Wrap Up Findlay Open

The University of Findlay wrestling team held their annual Findlay Open on Nov. 17 in the Koehler Fitness and Recreation Complex. James Wimer led the Roughnecks with a fifth place finish in the 157-pound weight class.

Wimer went 5-1 on the day and scored three major decision wins. He won his fifth place match by rule against Gannon's George McGuire.

Josh Wimer finished the day with a 5-1 record and took sixth place in the 149-pound weight class. He advanced to the fifth place match with a 4-0 win over Indianapolis' Dawson Combest before losing by rule to Lake Erie's John Siemasz.

Nate Vandermeer took sixth place in the 174-pound with class with a 5-1 record while Ryan Skonieczny took eight at 141 with a 3-2 mark. Vandermeer won four straight matches in the consolation bracket before losing by rule to Ashland's Christian Price while Skonieczny reached the consolation semifinals with an 11-5 victory over Notre Dame's David Bavery before losing by fall to Indiana Tech's Matt Miller.

The Roughnecks will be back in action again on Dec. 2 at the Wisconsin Open.
