Three Roughnecks Place at Midwest Classic

Indianapolis, Ind. - The University of Findlay wrestling team, ranked no. 24 in the country, capped off their trip to Indianapolis on Sunday, Dec. 16 with a trio of wrestlers placing in their respective weight classes.

At 141 pounds, Ryan Skonieczny won his first two matches of the day, earning 7-2 and 5-1 decisions to earn his way into the consolation semifinals. He then battled to a 6-4 victory over Jebben Keyes of Augustana to earn a trip to the third place match. In that bout, Skonieczny lost a back-and-forth battle with Kevin Kissane of Newman by a score of 5-4 to finish in fourth for the tournament.

James Wimer competed in the 157-pound bracket and won his first bout of the day with a 7-5 decision. After a loss, Wimer found himself in the seventh place match where he won over Tyler Makosy of UNC-Pembroke by a 10-8 decision to take home seventh in his weight class.

The final placer came at 174 pounds as Nathan Vandermeer, ranked 11th in the country, took to the mat after a perfect 3-0 start yesterday. He dropped a pair of two-point matches to begin Sunday before taking on Jack Servies of Marian University in the fifth place match. Vandermeer was defeated in that bout 6-1 and finished the tournament in sixth.

The Roughnecks are back at it on Jan. 12 when they head to Kenosha, Wisconsin for the Ranger Duals hosted by the University of Wisconsin Parkside.
