Wimer Brothers Earn All-American Honors

The University of Findlay wrestling program added two more All-Americans as junior James Wimer and senior Josh Wimer each reached the second day of the 2019 NCAA Division II National Championship, which is being held in Cleveland, Ohio.

James Wimer began the championship event with a major decision (13-3) victory over North Carolina-Pembroke's Tyler Makosy in the 157-pound weight class. He then reached the semifinals with a 9-5 decision against Newman Tyler Mies, who is the ranked third in the nation. Wimer will look to punch his ticket into the finals tomorrow when he wrestles Augustana's Colin Ayers.

Josh Wimer, who is ranked ninth in the nation at 149, defeated Gannon's Faris Messai by a 6-3 decision in the first round before falling to Tiffin's Trey Grime, who is ranked fourth in the nation, in 1:56 during the second round. He then claimed a 4-1 decision over Bellarmine's Gage Branson in the consolation bracket to guarantee an All-American honor. Wimer will face Saint Cloud State's James Pleskim who is ranked second in the nation, tomorrow in his first match.
