Women's Soccer Looking To Take The Next Step

The University of Findlay women's soccer team finished the 2010 campaign with a 9-7-3 record and were knocked out of the GLIAC Tournament by Grand Valley State University, who went on to win their second consecutive NCAA Division II National Championship.

Under the guidance of head coach Andy Smyth, who has recorded a 232-149-28 record in 21 years at the helm of the program, the Oilers will be looking to take the next step during the 2011 campaign and compete for a league title.

Junior Megan Gallaway and sophomore Sarah Silone return after finishing second on the team with five goals scored while junior Emily Beddoes is back after scoring nine goals in her first two years in the program.

The Oilers will begin their season at home on September 2 when they host Northern Kentucky University.  They will then host Bellarmine University on September 4 at DeHaven Field before heading out on the road to take on Tiffin University (9/7), Lake Erie College (9/9) and Ashland University (9/11).

Findlay begins a stretch of three straight home games on September 16 as they face Northwood University and will also play Saginaw Valley State University (9/18) and Ohio Dominican University (9/25) during the set.

The Oilers will end their opening month of competition on September 28 when they travel to Urbana University on September 28.

In October, the Oilers will host Tiffin University (10/2), Northern Michigan University (10/7), Michigan Technological University (10/9), Lake Erie College (10/28) and Ashland University (10/30).  They will also have road games against Ohio Dominican University (10/16), Ferris State University (10/21) and Grand Valley State University (10/23).

The GLIAC Tournament begins on November 1.  The semi-finals will be played on November 4 with the championship game slated for November 6.
